Olympic Fencer James Honeybone visits us!

We were thrilled to welcome three-time Commonwealth champion and London 2012 Olympian James Honeybone to our school this week for an unforgettable day.

James spent the day sharing his journey from a curious nine-year-old trying out a new sport to competing on the world’s biggest athletic stage. During a whole-school assembly, James showed the basic stance, footwork, and his favourite tactical lunges. Following the assembly, he challenged two pupils to a race, sprinting across the MUGA whilst strictly maintaining their newly learned fencing stances.

Reflecting on his time with us, James said: "It was amazing and super inspiring to spend the morning with the kids at Whitehall Park School. So many great questions and brilliant to see the kids staying active with the daily mile. Hopefully some future Olympians in the making!"

"Trying on the mask made me look like an astronaut, and it was so funny trying to race an Olympian while shuffling sideways." said Year 3 pupil.

Coach Jack added: "It was a fantastic opportunity to welcome an Olympian into our school to share his experiences with the children. Hearing first-hand about the dedication, resilience and hard work required to compete at the highest level was truly inspiring, and we hope it has encouraged our children to dream big and believe in what they can achieve."

What resonated most with everyone present was James's message about ambition, urging everyone to never give up on anything they want to pursue, no matter how difficult the challenge might seem. We would like to extend our massive thanks to James for inspiring our pupils to aim high, and to coach Jack for organising this inspiring day.
