Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day

On 8th May 2025, Whitehall Park Primary School proudly commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a day filled with learning, creativity, and celebration. The event was designed not only to honour this historic milestone but also to deepen our pupils' understanding of the significance of Victory in Europe Day.

The school came alive with 1940s flair, as children and staff arrived dressed in mid-40s fashion, setting the tone for an immersive historical experience. The day began with a special whole-school assembly that introduced the importance of VE Day and the events that led to the end of World War II in Europe.

Throughout the day, each class took part in tailored workshops that made history come alive in age-appropriate and engaging ways. For instance, Year 2 pupils enthusiastically participated in a fun quiz and were delighted to learn that, according to Lord Woolton, RAF pilots improved their night vision by... eating carrots!

The day was led by Chris from As Creatives, who brought energy and insight to each session. Reflecting on the event, Chris shared:

“Our day at Whitehall Park on the VE Day 80th anniversary was absolutely perfect. The children were so engaged, creative, and inquisitive, and the staff were welcoming and supportive throughout. We visit hundreds of schools each year, and it’s always great to be in one that truly values the kind of experience we provide.”

This memorable day not only celebrated a pivotal moment in history but also reminded us of the power of creative learning in helping young minds connect with the past in meaningful ways.
