PSHE this week focused on ‘Mental Health’ and ‘Growth’ as part of Children’s Mental Heath Week 2022

This morning PSHE Leader Emma Taylor, shared an assembly based around the concept of tree growth (looking at tree rings) and how each tree tells its own story about the weather and the conditions in each year of its growth.Β Β However, whether the conditions are good or bad, a tree still grows a new ring. People can be like trees. Sometimes we feel like we are growing, developing, and doing well. For example, we might do well in our tests at school and feel like we have good friends. But at other times we might feel like we are not growing and developing like we want to. We might get upset because we are finding our schoolwork difficult or have fallen out with our friends. We discussed how these feelings are very ordinary and even when we feel like things are not going right in our lives, we can continue to develop and grow – just like the tree can grow even when the conditions aren’t quite right!

This week, the children’s PSHE lessons will be raising awareness on growing emotionally and finding ways to help each other grow, as well as explaining the importance of children’s mental health. The children will watch ‘growth stories’ from some famous faces to support them in understanding that emotional growth is often a gradual process that happens over time, and sometimes we might feel a bit β€˜stuck’. At these times, we are reminded of how much we need others in our lives to help us to keep growing. At the end of the week the whole school will take part in a non-uniform ‘Dress to Express’ fundraising day!

All these activities are part of Place2Be Children’s Mental Health Week.Β  and the theme of ‘Growing Together’
