As part of our transition into Whitehall Park School, children are first visited in their homes and/or their nursery settings by members of the teaching staff and the reason for these visits is to form links with the children and families to aid any anxiety, to gather key information regarding likes/dislikes, learning styles, health problems and family backgrounds. This is key information is used to inform groupings, planning and activities during the initial stages of school life.
Children and families are then invited into school for ‘Stay and Play’ sessions which is a chance for children to meet their teachers, explore their new school, understand how to use different areas of learning and have the support of their families with them. Children really enjoyed having their parents and carers with them and this has aided a smooth transition into EYFS at Whitehall Park School.
Here are some pictures from our stay and play sessions.
