On Friday 24th April, we hosted our very first Mathstastic day! We started with a parent workshop which allowed us to educate our parents and carers in how we teach maths at Whitehall Park. We have developed our own curriculum based around Singapore Maths which allows children to master skills in different concepts by rehearsing using concrete, pictorial and abstract learning methods. After our workshop, the parents were invited into class to explore the concepts with their children using a range of resources based around our ‘Dinosaur Invasion’ topic. The children and parents all enjoyed their day and commented on how it equipped them to support their children at home. Thank you to all those who joined us for the day!
Parental feedback included:
“Attending the Maths session gave me a good idea of how to support my child at home with his homework as well as understand the methods used at school. I was particularly impressed with the concrete variations used to entice the children, dinosaur painted eggs and dinosaurs. I think back to how I was taught Maths and can see how it is so much more exciting and colourful for the children.”
