Lower Key Stage 2 refers to the children in Years 3 and 4 in primary school.  All children at Whitehall Park are supported as much as possible by teachers, senior management, teaching assistants, parent helpers, volunteers and peers to excel in all areas.

The information below details how the children will be taught and assessed, it also provides an overview of the topics to be taught as well as some example plans and timetables.

Expectations in Years 3 and 4

There is no formal assessment for the pupils in either Year 3 or Year 4.  There will however be ongoing teacher assessments throughout the year.  The teachers use these assessments to provide the children with purposeful learning opportunities, inform planning and move the children on with their learning.

Our  Assessment System has at its heart Assessment for Learning; this is when teachers assess children’s learning in the classroom and provide feedback and next steps for the child. This type of assessment is happening all day every day in our classrooms. To record, monitor and inform pupil progress for children in Years 3 and 4, we use a piece of software called Classroom Monitor. To track pupil’s attainment, Classroom Monitor uses a system of steps. This is based on a carefully considered logical approach to assessment and follows on from the assessment system we have introduced in EYFS.
